College Football Chao-off

This didn't really happen...
A win is a win except if it’s head to head, that’s worth more…unless you play in the Big 12 …but a win versus an FCS team isn’t really a win if you’re from the “Power 5”.

Defeating a team in their house counts too, although if you finish 6-6 nobody really cares…
A victory in a conference championship may count for one, but it’s better than a win in Ames.  College Football fans won this season with the first ever four team playoff, until December…..when some lost their minds.

Such is the narrative when it comes to College Football. Who could have fathomed a conference of 12 that lost 4 and added 2 (making a total of 10) would botch a conference title?

Remember Me!?
When College Football did it’s best Cam Newton impression, and threw the BCS computers out of the window (allegedly) the chaos was supposed to go with it! Gone were the days of margin of victory, and ridiculous logic. In came Condoleezza Rice and a playoff committee.

But, the avid college football fans saw there was still a problem larger than the holes in the Wisconsin defense…Some teams played conference title games, while others didn’t. A four-team playoff with five power conferences means someone or two gets left out (even the Big 12 could understand that math).

As tailgates, hydrated fans and rowdy collegiates returned to our hearts and campuses around the country those thoughts faded. Certainly it would all just “work out”. “It was the BCS’ fault!”

"This is America!?"
Four months later, three teams compete for one final spot as the BCS computers smolder on the curb outside the window they departed months earlier. “Well, it must be the Playoff committee’s fault!”  “Or that Big 12 commissioner!” “You get a trophy! And you get a trophy!” “What about ESPN, they love the SEC!” “If Mississippi State wins the Egg Bowl, two teams from that dreaded conference are in!” “We need an 8-team playoff!” “Nobody likes Texas, that’s why TCU and Baylor didn’t get in!” “Hey y’all, lets secede!” “Art Briles is God” “Art Briles is the Devil”

This already happened!
In the same way we can count on Bob Stoops not winning a big game, and Lane Kiffin getting fired only to get a better job….there will always be Chaos in College Football! If the BCS were still in place, complete mayhem would have ensued this year. An 8 team playoff would feature two rematches! 1.) Bama v 8.) Miss St  2.) Oreg vs 7.) MSU
Clearly that wouldn’t work. Teams wait 4 weeks from when the season ends until a “Bowl Game”

National Champs?
If you won’t commit to a full-blown playoff because the regular season “should matter”. And football players should “have to play school” too, that’s fine. But, most years will end up looking like a Nick Saban Christmas sweater.
